Police and Crime Commissioner Annual Awards

Nominate your community safety hero

Exceptional people who have gone above and beyond to keep their community safe will be honoured at the second annual awards ceremony of the Police and Crime Commissioner for Essex.

The Outstanding Contribution to Community Safety award aims to recognise individuals, volunteers and groups across the county who have delivered a project or scheme to improve the safety of those around them.
The PCC wants to formally recognise outstanding work in Essex in a voluntary or professional capacity delivering a service to the public to keep people safe, prevent crime and protect the most vulnerable people in our communities. This could include volunteers who go the extra mile to support and protect vulnerable people, or frontline public servants who go above and beyond to deliver an outstanding service to their community.

Nick Alston said: “I feel privileged to see first-hand many examples of excellence and innovation in community safety right across the voluntary, statutory and business sectors, often working very closely with, or for, Essex Police.

“The first winner of the Essex PCC award for Outstanding Contribution to Community Safety was Yvonne Weinling, who was recognised for the outstanding support she gave to vulnerable young people through the Appropriate Adults scheme in Clacton. Jenny Stocking of Essex Police and the Clacton division of the Essex Fire Cadets were also highly commended. I hope people will nominate their unsung hero or heroes for much deserved recognition.”

Details of the first awards and the outstanding work of Yvonne, Jenny and the Essex Fire Cadets can be seen here.

The winner of this year’s award will be announced at the PCC’s annual conference at the Community Stadium in Colchester on Tuesday 26th January, 2016. As well as one overall winner two further nominees will be highly commended.

Winners will receive a financial donation to their project, organisation or work, to further support the continuation of the important contribution they are making. The winning area of work or project will receive £500, with those highly commended receiving £250 each. This money must be reinvested back into the work which is being recognised. If this is not possible winners will be asked to name a charity of their choice related to the winning area of work where the money will be invested on their behalf.

Nominations are open to individuals and teams from across the statuary, community, voluntary and business sectors, where an outstanding contribution has been made to improve community safety, prevent crime or protect vulnerable people. Nominations can be submitted by anyone who has benefitted from or witnessed the efforts of the nominees and their work, including managers, colleagues, or members of the public.
