ENGAGING WITH ESSEX

The Police and Crime Commissioner for Essex is committed to involving the people of Essex in the decisions made on their behalf.

Therefore we want to understand your needs and views on the county’s policing and the services provided by the Commissioner, particularly when the Commissioner works in partnership with Essex Police and other partners.

Whether you live or work in Essex, or are visiting friends or family, you may have a view on what crime reduction and community safety priorities should be, or how Essex Police should best deliver their services. You may also be able to provide feedback from personal experiences.

Your views help form the core priorities for the Police and Crime Plan for Essex. The Plan is the PCC’s strategy for crime reduction and community safety in Essex for the next four years.

Engagement Charter

My ‘engagement charter’ is my commitment to the people of Essex of all the ways in which I will be available to you. It also aims to capture my commitment to learning from you so that I can better hold Essex Police to account on your behalf.

Engagement Charter Mission Statement:

To create a flexible programme of engagement, providing all communities with the opportunity to participate fully in the debate and decision making around policing and safety policy and practice in the county.

Engagement Principles:

  • Our engagement will be open and transparent, ensuring that the police, and the OPCC give you all the information we can, and as often as possible.
  • We will make it as easy as possible to engage with us by holding our events at accessible places and times, and in the heart of communities across Essex.
  • Wherever possible we will bring you together with the people most responsible for safety and policing in your area, so you can get real answers from real people.
  • We will use all the methods available to us to deliver information to you and consult with you including online and social media where appropriate.
  • Our engagement events and activity will include, reflect and celebrate the diverse communities of Essex.

The intended aims of our engagement programme are that:

  • The public voice is evident in the Policing and crime plan, and all decision making in the OPCC.
  • Public awareness of and confidence in the Police and Crime Commissioner is increased amongst all communities.
  • Essex Police understanding of and response to community needs improved through an informed and public-led PCC scrutiny programme.
  • Services and support for victims in Essex improved through direct engagement with vulnerable and at-risk communities.
  • Engagement with larger online and social media audiences through better engagement with community organisations and groups.
  • Partnership work improved through increased joint working and public-led oversight role.
